Ever felt the desire to evangelize, but you just didn't know how to go about it? Evangelization need not consist of grandiose plans and big investments in time and energy. Below is one of our board member's reflections on how small actions can made a big difference: Discipleship and the Domestic Church by Debra Davenport, Director of Protestant Outreach for One Bread Board Discipleship means different things at different times of life. The most "disciple-ing" I can do outside the home these days is to put bumper stickers on my van that are pro-life and that advertise Catholic radio. I guess I will never know how much good the bumper stickers do. I also pray constantly for courage to be very open about my Catholic faith in public. I study and read and think of how I can lovingly explain my faith to others. I don't hit people over the head, but I don't want to let any opportunity for evangelizing to pass by. I have lots of opportunities to share my faith when I have my five children with me because of the Church's teaching on openness to life. I also almost always wear a religious medal and I refer to church on Sunday as Mass instead of just "going to church". I like for anyone I meet to know as soon as possible that I am Catholic. Being Catholic is such a treasure and one of the best kept secrets in this world! Read more. The Heart of Discipleship By Thomas Morehead When I felt called to write my thoughts about Discipleship, I looked back over readings and research I had done in the past. As I did so, several themes began to emerge, none more prominently than that of Love. Jesus gave us a new commandment: “love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (Jn 13, 34b-35). Read more.
